Guten Tag!! It’s time to break out the lederhosen! Did we just teleport ourselves to Germany? No, we’re at the Augsburg Haus in Evans, Georgia! Upon entering, you’re greeted by the host or hostess and asked to sit wherever you’d like. The dining experience here is casual and much like going to a friend or family members place for a meal. Service is great with a relaxed atmosphere so you feel unhurried when dining. German pictures and decorations adorn the walls giving you a sense that you’ve been transported to the European county.
For our meals we both ordered the jägerschnitzel which is thinly pounded out pork that is breaded, fried, and covered with a creamy mushroom gravy with a hint of rosemary. This dish comes with a side of potatoes which are crunchy in the outside and soft on the inside or spaetzle which is a fluffy, doughy egg noodle, specific to some southern Germany. Each plate comes with a side of either creamy cucumber salad, thinly sliced cucumbers with dill, or German potato salad which has a vinegar base (instead of the American mayonnaise base). This dish is the ultimate comfort food!
For desert we tried the Black Forest cake which has a cherry flavored cream, sandwiched between the spongy chocolate cake layers, covered with whipped cream-like frosting. Topped with shaved dark and white chocolate. We also tried the apple turnover with a sweet warm apple and cinnamon filling in a crunchy pastry dusted with powdered sugar and served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Mmmm so good!!
Augsburg Haus is one of our favorite restaurants in Augusta! Anytime we are in the mood for some German comfort food this is our go to spot! We would absolutely recommend you giving it Augsburg Haus a try. Maybe we’ll see you there soon!
Auf Wiedersehen
’til next time,
