Augusta Greek Festival Spring 2022: Augusta Goes Greek

OPA! Why are there so many people eating gyros in downtown Augusta, GA? Is it someone’s big fat Greek wedding? Oh wait, it’s the Greek festival!

This event is finally back in full swing with many vendors, live music, and dancing (yes, there’s belly dancing too!) It comes as no surprise that the main attraction is the delicious food and desserts.

Feta Fries with Spanakopita

For dinner, we ate lamb gyros of course dripping with delicious tzatziki sauce on a soft, warm pita. For our sides, we had the spanakopita made out of flaky phyllo dough and stuffed with feta cheese and spinach. We also devoured the feta fries, description of these: fries topped with… you guessed it feta!

Ekmek Kataifi (It was delicious!)

My favorite part of any meal is the dessert! Obviously, we had to sample the baklava which is made of layers of phyllo dough, honey, and walnuts with some heavenly cinnamon mixture. We also ordered Ekmek Kataifi (don’t ask me how to pronounce it) which is essentially a layered cup of shredded phyllo dough with syrup, topped with custard and a huge helping of whipped topping as a garnish (also delicious!)

If you did not make it to the Greek festival (or happen to live under a rock) this past weekend, don’t fret, there is another Greek festival in the fall around October.

αντιο σας (goodbye)

‘til the next bite,
