Opened for brunch, Local Augusta is a low key, family friendly spot. Started by local restauranteur, Chef Edward Mendoza, founder of Cucina 503 (one of our favorite restaurants for delicious homemade pasta!). They describe their menu as “tavern comfort food” and pride themselves on sourcing ingredients from local farmers to bring fresh, handpicked flavors to every dish.
As we were seated, we couldn’t help but to look around and see the decor which focuses on the people and rich history of Augusta.
They seemed to be short staffed in the kitchen on the day that we went, however, all of the servers were sure to check on us frequently and let us know our order was being prepared.
For starters, we ordered the smoked salmon plate which includes a toasted plain bagel, tender smoked salmon, chilled plain and herb cream cheese, sliced red onions and capers. We’re suckers for smoked salmon and it certainly did not disappoint!
As for entrees, we ordered the chicken and French toast. The fluffy and sweet French toast was served with crispy chicken strips and topped with a dusting of powdered sugar and delicious maple syrup. It was served with a side of salted breakfast potatoes that had the perfect crunch.
We also ordered the short rib and eggs plate which included tender braised beef short rib, that could be pulled apart with a fork, topped with pickled onions, two eggs cooked to your liking (I prefer a nice runny yoke), breakfast potatoes and Texas toast.
Don’t let the shortage of kitchen staff deter you from visiting this great restaurant. Local Augusta has become one of our favorite brunch restaurants in Augusta and I’m sure you will feel the same after trying it out for yourself.
’til the next bite,
